AmeriCorps Volunteers In Service To America (VISTA)

The CIS of GA AmeriCorps*VISTA Mentoring Project, through a partnership with the Georgia Corporation for National and Community Service, addresses the needs of children and families in poverty and develops the capacity for CIS sites to better serve youth, families, and schools.

AmeriCorps*VISTA members work with local CIS affiliates throughout the state and assist in the development, expansion and sustainability of anti-poverty programming, which supports high-risk youth. The programming includes academic mentoring and family strengthening.

VISTA members are recruited, selected, and receive ongoing training by CIS staff. They are placed at affiliate host sites to serve as change agents at the institutional, community, and individual levels. Members have proven to be effective in several important areas: community capacity building, including the development of human capital to support mentoring programs; mentor training and coordination services; program awareness and organizational credibility.
