Because of Communities In Schools, my life has been shaped into something I can believe in. CIS created the Performance Learning Center, which has served as my launching pad into a better future. While I was in the regular high school, I was a very hard worker but I was constantly having trouble because I have Lupus. It caused me to be absent a lot and fall behind in my school work. My one main goal in high shcool was to graduate with my graduating class, and though I didn't accomplish this goal, with the PLC's help, I know that I will have my diploma by December. While in the PLC, I relized my dream of owning my own museum to display my artwork. I would also like my artwork to be shown in hospitals, doctor's offices, and many other business places. The PLC staff has helped me by encouraging me to do so. CIS has made a difference in my life.

Pupils Launching Careers
The process for my wood burning project included:

  • First, I did a sketch on paper and then transferred it to the board.
  • Then, I divided the board into three sections.
  • At the bottom, I drew PLC with extra details.
  • In the middle section, I drew a rocket with students inside to depict the process of establishing and reaching for our goals; the outside of a rocket that has a sign saying "WE MADE IT."
  • Then in the top section, I drew a town of careers. In that town I drew "Wendy's" Art Museum and other employment opportunities.
  • Along the sides I designated Pupils Launching Careers because PLC helps students launch into their dream careers.
  • Then, I burned it into the wood.
