2007 Award Recipients

MeShae Hankerson
MeShae was selected to participate in Burke County's Future Force Teen Leadership Program, sponsored by Communities In Schools, when she entered the 7th grade. MeShae continued in this program through high school where she spent her summers as a participant in the Leadership Institute at Emory University. MeShae is currently a sophomore at Georgia Southern University.

Ja-Lisa Walden
JaLisa is a 2007 honor graduate of Dublin High School and is a current freshman at Georgia Tech. She has been part if the Communities In Schools of Lauren County family since the doors opened in 1999. Ja-Lisa was an after-school program participant, moved on to become a volunteer (with more than 500 hours), and was hired as an AmeriCorp member last year.
Kevin Diaz
Kevin exemplifies the success of Communities In Schools. Not a traditional learner, he couldn't function in the classic high school setting and failed to thrive academically. As a last resort, he entered the Performance Learning Center in Cobb County. He quickly earned all credits necessary to graduate from high school. He then used his experience to mentor other students. Kevin is beginning his freshman year at Georgia State University.

Ann Rhodes
Ann participated in Communities In Schools as a senior at Callaway High School in Troup County. She served on the Student Advisory Board where she learned the importance of team work and community service. She received scholarships from HOPE and CIS of Troup County and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education. In 2006, Ann received a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Troy University in Phenix City, Alabama. She has been working with CIS at Hillcrest Elementary School in Troup COunty to help increase reading scores.
