During the recent Georgia School superintendents Association spring conference, Communities In Schools provided an overview regarding how CIS provides dropout solutions through its cost efficient integrated student support services implemented through the CIS Model.  The model uses hard data (through research and evaluation) and soft skills (provided by site coordinators) to help school districts reduce dropout rates and improve graduation rates.

GSSA ConferenceThe presentation opened with Dr. Dave Handy from Communities In Schools National providing statistics regarding the affects of poverty on student achievement, and explaining how the CIS Model works to help at-risk students succeed in school.

Dr. Emily Lembeck, Marietta City Schools superintendent, and Dr, Elgin Dixon, Twiggs County Schools superintendent were amongst the panelists.  Dixon commented on the effectiveness of bringing CIS to his district for student support and the impact it has had on graduation rates.  Lembeck also stated that CIS helped her district improve graduation rates.
