Communities In Schools of Georgia was a sponsoring partner for the 2016 Georgia Family Engagement Conference. There were over 1,200 educators, administrators, parents and child advocates who attended. As one of the opening speakers Carol Lewis, CIS of Georgia president, encouraged participants to network and attend as many workshops as possible. Sessions focused on providing attendees with best practices and child support strategies that bolster family involvement and boost student achievement for school success.

Studies have shown that students with engaged parents, no matter their income or background, are more likely to:

  • Earn higher grades and test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs
  • Be promoted, pass their classes and earn credits
  • Attend school regularly
  • Have better social skills, show improved behavior and adapt well to school
  • Graduate and go on to post-secondary education
